A month and a half ago, my girlfriend found a kitten abandoned, and trapped in a rose bush. Maybe 4 weeks old, she asked me to come take her home because she was at work. So I did, and started looking for shelters to take her, but was told that everywhere was full. I decided to socialize with her while we searched, and she and I started bonding, I decided to keep her. I have a dog, and an older cat, they’ve been getting along ok after some rough starts, but the three seem to be getting along.
The problem is her personality towards me. After the shock of abandonment wore off, and she adjusted to the new place, she became all cuddly and affectionate with me, climbing all over me, whining whenever I left, etc, she was attached to me. Last week, my girlfriend and I went out of town for 5 days, and we had the cats stay with her mom. Ever since we’ve been back, it’s like a completely different cat, she wants nothing to do with me, she is skittish towards me, yet still playful with the older cat, and with toys if I’m holding them. But she borderline refuses to let me touch her, or walk towards me at all, and runs away if I move at anything more than a snails pace. The few times I have reached her, she squirms away almost immediately, or sits there motionless, no purring like she use to. It’s like she suddenly hates me, and only wants me around for food.
What do I do? I miss the cuddly kitten, I was never a cat person but she really got to me, and now she is cold and really doesn’t want to be near me whatsoever. Is there something I can do to fix this? Is this normal?
Please help
