So I'm having trouble with an "inherited" dog

Well, the circumstances are more complex than this but to sum it up: the couple who had owned this nine years old male non-castrated beagle have both passed away and now the dog is under my care.

Problem is he won't obey. He ignores anything I say and do as he pleases.

So he's peeing wherever he feels like, thrashes trash bags and scatter the contents all over, eats the food of both plates leaving the other dog nothing, goes where he wants when we go to the park and simply DOES NOT OBEY ME.

Of course I know I'm not supposed to beat him but when I try to speak in a commanding tone he gets aggressive, barking at me with a look on his face that says "I'd kill you if I could", no exaggeration here, he has bitten/try to bite me a couple of times.

It's being six months and my patience is running out.

What can I do?
