Which one should I get first - a dog or a cat?

I have decided that I want to adopt both a dog and a cat. I grew up with dogs and volunteered in a dog shelter, so I'm very comfortable around dogs. But I never had a cat, even though I love them.

Now, I already have a friend that will have puppies in about 2 months + 2 months to let the puppy be with her/his mother. So, 4 months from now, I'll have a puppy. My plan was to get the dog first, mostly because I'm moving in two months, meaning that there isn't a lot of time to find a cat before the dog moves in. However, I think that's kinda silly - I'm sure there are plenty of cats in shelters ready to be adopted. Plus, cats are more independent, so it will provide good company while I'm still settling in into my new house (and new country). But, then again, what's the best way to introduce dogs to cats (or vice versa)? Having a cat that already lives in the house and bring a puppy in, or the other way around? What do you think?
