So I recently adopted a one year old pug/beagle/shar pei mix from someone on Craigslist. This was a month and a half ago.
I've taken her to a costly veterinary clinic that has given me conflicting information (may change clinics soon).
For her first appointment, the veterinarian said that I should wait until she goes through heat because she has some symptoms of heat (swollen nipples/external reproductive parts). This was just over a month ago and she's still not in heat.
Yesterday, I took her for some booster shots at the same clinic and the veterinary technician claims that she isn't approaching heat. I was also told to get her fixed ASAP-- but ALSO told to wait until she's been living with me for awhile.
The cost of getting her spayed at my current veterinary clinic is 500 dollars and they don't keep her overnight. On the other hand, the humane society spays dogs for 230 dollars and includes the same services + a health screening beforehand. My family has told me that going through the humane society is dangerous, but this one has extremely high ratings/reviews for its clinic.
Tl;Dr: I want to get a one year old dog spayed. I've had her for a month and a half. Should I wait awhile or get her spayed immediately? Also, is the humane society a good place to get dogs spayed?
