Got a new kitty because we're worried that our cat is lonely when we're gone. Few questions!

So my girlfriend and I were given a 6 month old male rag doll, biscuit(he didn't come with a name, so we named him!) over a year ago because his owner bought him for her son. Son didn't want or care for the cat, so she asked around and eventually he found his way to us! He's a great cat, very friendly, cuddly, and fairly social. He gets along with both of our dogs(60lb aussie/great pyr mix May, 9lb yorkie Fifi, both females), and has never really hurt or bit anyone beyond a few accidental scratches when playing with Fifi, who usually run around chasing each other. He also plays with May, but no problems there.

When we're gone for work, May stays outside, and Fifi usually sleeps all day. About 6 months ago I went from working from home to working a full time job 5-6 days a week, and we've noticed that he had been acting out a LOT more. Scratching walls, meowing during the night, waking us up during the night by licking or walking on us. Biscuit had done this sometimes before, but maybe once or twice a month. Now it's several times a week easily!

Anyways! We ended up going to the same place he came from and bought a male ragdoll kitten, Macchi(like macchiato)! We thought that maybe if we get a kitten of the same breed, that he'll have an easier time bonding with them. So far he seems super happy! We've only had Macchi since sunday, but after 2 days they were already running around and playing with each other! They literally play ALL day for HOURS on end, while we supervise them of course. He constantly watches the kitten, play bites the air at the kitten(not often actually even play biting the kitten itself, but just the air, like he's playing. He'll do it like 10-20+ times in a row while Macchi is laying down biting/grabbing him). He'll also groom Macchi and pur if the kitten runs up to him. Macchi also seems very attached to Biscuit, and whenever we're asleep or out of the house, we lock Macchi in another room by himself. They'll both meow for each other for at least 5-10 minutes once they're separated. Then they'll run to each other and groom/rub against each other and purr!

My questions are -

  • How long should I wait before leaving them alone together? Macchi is very tiny compared to Biscuit(3-4 lbs vs 15+)

  • Macchi seems to try to play with our yorkie the same way she plays with our cat, but our yorkie just gets scared and shakes as she's very anxious and scared. How can I help Macchi and Fifi play together?

  • How should I go about introducing her to May, our Aussie? May is very animal friendly and is 3 years old, fairly socialized to other animals.

  • Is there anything important I should know? Any tips?

  • Our cat Biscuit will NOT cover his shit, while Macchi does it perfectly. Biscuit sometimes tries to uncover it after Macchi poops. How can we avoid Biscuit corrupting our poor kitty?? Could Macchi possibly teach Biscuit to cover his shit? Is this possible?
