I posted previously about her, but now I have a new small issue.
My mom adopted a 3 year old Rat Terrier/Chiuhuaua on Tuesday.
She has never been outside ever in her entire life. Not for a walk or a car ride. Shes never felt grass or felt free and that makes me sad.
She was trained to use a pee pad by her previous owners. So we bought some pads for now while she warms up in her new home. We dont want to make things too stressful for her.
We have a very big, fenced yard thats all hers. She didnt really want to be out there alone at first but today, she roamed all the way to the very back of the yard by herself. So now that shes getting used to it, i wanna start nudging her to use the bathroom out there but she's glued to her pee pads.
I sit outside with her for exhausting long periods of time and she goes on several walks a day. But she just wont go.
I threw her poops outside hoping she'll eventually get the hint. I also put a pee pad on the patio (that was fun to say) but she wasnt interested.
Im the one who usually, unprofessionally yet successfully, trains the pets in the family but ive never worked with a small dog. And the small pups I know just dont want to hear what the humans have to say. So any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Again, I dont want to push her too much right now cause this is all very new. But now that shes getting comfortable in the yard alone, I wanna get some ideas before she becomes too comfortable peeing and pooping in our house. I dont want this to be a norm anymore. I have hardwood floors dangit!
TL;DR How do i get a 3 year old dog, dedicated to pee pads, to pee outside?
