New here, but I've read probably about every thread here about dogs with seizures. And I'm at wits end.
My pup, Loki, just turned a year old. He had 2 seizures back to back, about 1 minute in length with about 5-10 minutes between. I was heart broken watching him, but he came to after about 30 minutes and was him normal self.
This was friday night, we got him into our vet monday. She was concerned because he had them back to back but with early onset, she assumes it is epilepsy. She did bloodwork which came back good, he just had only very slightly elevated liver enzymes which she wasnt too concerned about. We opted to hold out on medication to see if it was just a one off, and I wanted to try CBD rather than something he'd be on for the rest of his life.
Anyways, he made it about 5 days before having 2 back to back seizures again... before the CBD came in the mail. So we got him on phenobarbital 2x a day the next day.
We give him that, plus CBD at the 6 hour mark in between doses. He was good for about 10 days. He had a 2 minute seizure in the middle of the night, we gave him another dose of CBD and he didnt have a follow up seizure that night.
We took him to the vet today, and later tonight he had 3 back to back short seizures. The 3rd wasnt really a full seizure, I was with him on the couch and his lips curled a bit and he started foaming - I instantly gave him some CBD and he was fine.
We have to wait about a week for his metabolic panels but I'm concerned. He's on the lowest dose possible right now, so I know we can adjust or try new meds, but its just getting hard to handle. I'm going to stop the CBD for now so we can let the meds do their work, only giving it to him if he has a seizure. I'm just scared he's going to pass, or it's not epilepsy. We cant afford neurological testing and Im so concerned its a brain tumor.
I know its early, but I would think the seizures wouldnt be as bad on medication. Then again, we dont really have a baseline since we got him on meds after the 2nd cluster. Like I said, im just really concerned and needed to vent, get personal guidance. He's a perfect pup in between, no other issues. I'm just worried about him, out my 3 dogs, he's my little bud.
Everything I've read is their dogs have seizures 1x a month even unmedicated. He's had 4 without meds, and 4 on meds in the span of a few weeks... which again, makes me concerned it's not epilepsy.
Sorry, Im ranting. Ha.
