My cat is doing something weird, should I be worried?

I am twelve years old and have two black cats and this post is about the overweight one called sparkles.

Note: this cat is very lazy and doesn’t like to hunt

She will spend hours on end outside staring, a cold hard stare, looking at the section of grass near the fence. Once she went out one morning and stayed doing that for the whole day. It was quite late when she wanted to come in.

Should I be worried about this behaviour?

Edit: If enough people ask I will provide a picture of my cat doing this.
