My little girl is a year and a half old and I have had her ever since she was only 3 months old. The cat rescue association I adopted her from said they found her in a garbage bag on the side of the road in the Pilbarra. When I met her, it was love at first sight and I knew she was the cat for me and she must have known it as well because she fell asleep in my arms the day we met. I love this little girl with all my heart and I will be the first to admit that I have spoiled her a little too much and now I am dealing with teenage cat issues. It's not like I had ever let her get away with this bad behaviour as a kitten, to be honest it feels like she's testing the boundaries and its driving me crazy and I worry about how it impacts my housemates. I live in a shared house with 5 other people, it's a big house so it's not a big deal but recently, my cat has started to eat their unattended food right off the bench! I've asked them to cover their food because she has started to eat their food and it is mortifying as a pet owner when she misbehaves so badly! Whenever she has done this, I grab her by the scruff of her neck while pointing at the food going "what's this? NO. Bad girl!" And she will cry and hide for a bit and then walk right back out like she's still the boss of the house. She has also suddenly got me on a routine and if I don't feed her by a certain time in the morning she will cry and bite my nose and eyelids! This has been a behaviour thats gone on since she was a kitten and I always give her a snack when she bites to let her know that's not on but the whole eating food off of the bench is new. Last month, she went missing for a week and has suddenly developed these almost stray cat like behaviours and its driving me up the wall. I want to give her the option to go outside when im not at home because it makes her happy and I think it is important for her to be out in nature, she always comes home when I call now so thats not too much of an issue. It's not like I don't feed her, I feed her her wet food in the morning and leave out plenty of biscuits for her to eat during the day but every so often I will catch her up on the bench at night eating my housemates unprotected food. She has never been allowed on benches and she knows that but I'm not sure how to stop her from doing it. I'm worried it will get to the point that my housemates will tell me to get rid of her which I'll probably move house to keep her but still. She is such a spoiled brat and I don't know what to do.
TLDR: My cat is such a brat and she bites when she doesn't get her own way and has started a new behaviour after going missing for a week last month where she eats my housemates unprotected food from the bench. How do I correct this behaviour ??
