(had this dog 5 months, he is 2 years old, shelter adopt)
I travel about an hour and a half at least once a month to visit my parents, and of course my dog comes with me because he can't be left at the house alone for an entire weekend. I have tried EVERYTHING that my vet has recommended to me to help his anxiety over the trip. benadryl, thundershirt, crate, no crate, bed, no bed, having him literally sit on my lap while my husband drives, NOTHING works. his least favorite part is when we make turns with the car, they freak him out for some reason. if he isn't already crying just because he's in the car, he will DEFINITELY cry once we make a good turn, and then sometimes he just doesn't stop for the rest of the ride. we have made this trip many times with him and he isn't getting better. I'm getting exhausted and frankly I'm worried that he just won't ever get used to car rides. is there anything else I can do to help him?
