Really, what I'm looking for is the best vacuum you've ever used that really gets into carpets to pick up cat hair/people hair/etc.
Our vacuum is shot, and it just never gets enough out of our wall-to-wall apartment carpet. I know there are special vacuums out there for pets, but there are so many options.
Any other cleaning supply advice is appreciated too, anything you never thought you'd need, etc.
