Cat acting like I've never seen. Took to vet, but I'm getting really worried. Is he trying to tell me something?

My cat is 5 years old and overweight at 19 pounds.

I just took him to the vet at 5:30 pm central time tonight because he was acting lethargic. Just at 4:30 pm, he was acting generally happy except for some things that have started changing over the past few days. He is turning his nose to food when he usually eats nonstop when we give him his portions, he hasn't really been drinking water, he's walking strangely like I've never ever seen before (limp, acting like his feet hurt), and whenever he sits he acts very uncomfortable. He's also breathing a little quickly, although I also don't really know how his breathing usually is. His eyes are discharging yellowish-white fluid which hasn't been happening at all until 5:15-5:25 pm today. He also keeps trying to go in my room, which is something he never does and actually refuses to do unless I'm in there because he prefers to be in the kitchen or living room. I actually had to pick him up and take him out of my room earlier because he wouldn't leave and he meowed very loudly at me when his meow is usually very baby-like and tiny.

The vet checked his blood which he said came back normal. Although I don't know all of what he checked I would guess it was thyroid levels and for any poisoning? He said it's probably a respiratory infection and gave him a shot in the scruff for it. When he was going to show me how to give him oral medicine, my cat SCREAMED and hissed and clawed and struggled. I have to return on Friday to get another shot for the respiratory infection. His temperature was also normal. I asked him about his feet and he briefly looked over them and said they seemed normal, but whenever I try to look at them my cat acts uncomfortable and tries to pull them away.

I've had him since he was six months old and he has never, EVER behaved this way. He constantly has energy, is loving and responds to me and my grandparents, eats and drinks normally every day, and either begs for food while my grandparents eat dinner or eats his own food with them. While they don't feed him human food (ever) during then, he's currently curled on the footrest instead of being in the kitchen for attention. I am so very worried; he's all I have in life that makes me happy and he's clearly hurting but I don't know what's wrong. I know it could very well just be the respiratory infection, but the sudden onset of it just tonight really really scares me. I could very well be overreacting, and sometimes I do... But is he trying to tell me something is wrong? I feel so sick to my stomach right now with worry for him. If anyone has any advice or anything for me, please get back to me as soon as you can. I can be messaged which would probably be easier and would receive a quicker and more in-depth reply. I also have the vet's number as he's on call for the night in case something happens.

Thank you.
