Last week, my 12-year-old cat started acting strange. He wasn't eating and was very lethargic. So I brought him to the vet, where he was diagnosed with pancreatitis and a bladder infection. He was given subcutaneous fluids and an antibiotic injection. We were sent home with an appetite stimulant, medicine for the pancreatitis, and instructions to syringe feed him.
Despite our best efforts, he hasn't improved much. He still won't eat or drink on his own, and spits out his medicine. He's had two additional vet visits, where he's received IV fluid therapy and a steroid injection. We do about 8 sessions of syringe feeding every day, so he's receiving a decent amount of food and water. But nothing seems to help. I'm worried about my sweet kitty.
Has anyone else had a similar experience with feline pancreatitis? If so, did your cat eventually recover? How long did it take? And did a specific treatment make a big difference, or was it just a battle of attrition?
