Building new house, best type of flooring?

We're building a new house, and while we're still in our old house, 2 of my elderly animals have started having accidents inside. 12 year old dog - turned out to be a UTI, 17 year old cat - chronic kidney disease. Our hardwood floors have basically no finish in some areas, and of course those are the spots they both chose to pee...but that's for a different post.

What type of flooring in our new house would be best for pet accidents? I know there's some vinyl plank that looks like hardwood & claims to be waterproof, but I've never seen it in person installed in a house, and I don't want a vinyl/cheap-feeling floor. Tile feels cold & industrial/commercial to me, but I'm not totally opposed to it. What are your suggestions?
