Most educated cat people I see online seem to dislike the idea of cat breeds. Unlike horse, pig, pigeon, or dog breeds, cats are bred only for looks. They have mild personality differences, but there's not much difference between a domestic long hair and a Maine Coon.
Are there any cat breeds that are bred for reasons besides cosmetic? Or should cats be like ferrets and rats: they come in colors and fur textures, not breeds
