So we have an 8 year old dog (toy Australian Shepherd) and a one year old cat. The dog and the cat have gotten along pretty well, even playing a bit at times but pretty much always coexisting well. Enter our new puppy, who we got 3 or 4 weeks ago. The puppy and the cat get along really well and play together constantly. The dog didn’t like the puppy at first, then started to tolerate him, and now they also play together constantly. Lately (maybe the last week), whenever the puppy and cat play, the dog gets super mad and attacks the cat. Nothing super vicious, but enough to scare the cat pretty good. Does anyone have any idea as to why this would randomly start happening? Does the dog think he’s protecting the puppy?
