So, long story short... my parents have 5 cats. 4 knew each other well, took in a stray less than a year ago to make 5. The original 4 don't really get along with the 5th. Really no fighting or anything super violent, but it seems like they intimidate the new one into staying away from the food bowl, out of rooms, etc.
I'm getting a new place soon and was thinking about getting a pet, so I've decided to take this cat. The thing is... my parents have always freefed dry food to the cats. No wet food at all. The cat is used to just eating dry food whenever it wants. I want to start at least doing SOME wet food. Was thinking about dry food before I left for work in the morning, and then a can of wet at night around dinner time. Is it going to be a problem training a cat whos used to free feeding to be on more of a schedule? And how much should a cat be eating? I've read about an oz per lb of cat. This cat is 8.8lbs so that would make 9 oz a day. Does that sound about right?
