Little back story: My husband and I have a 12 year old chihuahua mix who is basically a cat. He doesnt bark (thank goodness though), doesnt play with toys, and basically just wants to sleep in your lap all day long. He doesn't care about new dogs being around him (gets along with every dog), hes so easy going and just an easy dog all together honestly. We also have a 6 year old playful and sassy cat who has been raised around dogs her whole life.
My husband and I have been on and off about the idea of adding a dog to our family. We do not have any kids. However, we hope to have one some day in the next few years maybe. We also have a new house with a fenced backyard so our house is super dog friendly. We both work full time so between our 2 schedules and commute we are gone for a total of 8 hours Monday-Friday. His new schedule he will work weekends and be off 2 days in the week so if we decided to get a dog we would be home more often than not for it.
A few days ago we saw an ad for a sweet little girl chihuahua mix puppy (5 months old) that we just have fallen in love with. They say her temperament is super shy but opens up after a while and is super playful and sweet. I think my dog and her would compliment each other very well since my dog doesnt get up in everyone's business like most do. He would also give her the space to adapt to the new house as well. For some reason I am super anxious to make this life decision! I want her and I know we can give her a good life full of love. I guess I'm just afraid 3 animals will be overly hectic. My husband and I just really want a dog that's going to want to play with toys, go for walks, go to the dog park, and just be a dog!
We have a meeting to meet her this weekend and we have already gotten her toys and treats to greet her with so this is getting real!
I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that everyone goes through this feeling of slight doubt when considering adoption? And that this is normal. Or if someone thinks this is a terrible idea? My husband seems to be fine with everything. I may be more worried because I take care of our current pets the most and it would just mean more work for me. Will a puppy be too much? Shes a small dog which I'm not sure if this means it will be easier?
Thoughts? Opinions?
