I'm putting my cat on a diet. Is this too much food?

My cat weights 18lbs I found this formula online to calculate his caloric intake which is (kg.75) x 70 X 1.2 which puts his ideal daily calorie intake at about 405~ cal's. Ive read that giving cat 75-80% of that helps lose weight. So I figure he needs about 303-324 calories a day to lose weight

Now here's where I need some help. When I looked at his food and started to see how much he should eat and I think it's wayyyy too much. It says a 156g can of wet food is 180~cals for the entire can and his dry food is 425 cals per cup. So if I gave him a full can and a 1/4 cup of dry food that should equal 286 calories for about 186g of food, then about 10 wishkas at 2 calories each to bring him up to his need.

I don't know anything about dieting pets but doesn't this seem like a ton of food? I can't imagine he could lose weight eating that much
