My cat won't stop hissing at our new kitten

I've had my cat since 2011, she's now about 8 years old. We just call her Kitty (we tried to make her shadow but that didn't work out bc everyone ended up calling her Kitty).

Anyways, after the passing of our dog, Emily, we decided to fill the void by getting a new pet, one out of my friend's cat's litter from mid August. We picked out Leo, who's very vocal.

To start out, for Leo's safety, we have him separated in the game room with all connecting doors closed at all times. The double doors at the very front are rubber banded and roped together so no cats get in or out, and have glass in between the frame that you can see through. The other door in slides and we just keep it closed.

Anyways, when no one's in there, Leo starts crying really loudly. He'll put his paws up on the double door and look out. He's really effective at eliciting attention. Both good attention from our family and bad attention from Kitty.

Kitty hasn't lived in harmony with other cats since before she was adopted. She didn't have a relationship with Emily besides the fact that Emily would always bark at her and chase her off. Well, now, when Kitty sees little Leo at the door crying, she goes up to him and hisses.

I'm personally sympathetic for her. Everything for her changed in an instant and she's feeling jealous and territorial. I've made sure I've given her 100% of the attention that she wants but she still seems very upset about it. Everyone else yells at her when she hisses and growls. I think it has to be a natural response and not just her trying to bully the kitten like everyone else thinks.

Anyways, the point of me typing this, the hissing hasn't stopped since Saturday, it's Tuesday and it's only gotten louder and more angry since. Is this normal? Will she calm down about it? Will she warm up to Leo? I'm sure Leo will be fine living with her and sharing the house with her, but I'm not sold that Kitty will be okay. We plan on introducing them face to face inside the room maybe this weekend, Kitty restrained obviously. My hope mainly is just that we can get Kitty to the point where she tolerates Leo or maybe can even find company with him. Everyone else thinks they can be friends but I'm not so fast to be that optimistic.

Should I be worried? What can I do to smooth this process?
