Please adopt. Don't shop. My sister had taken in two cats in December 2018 for my nieces who are still toddlers. She purchased them through PetSmart. The cat's names we're Blossom(F) and Bubbles(M). Assuming they had a brother or sister named Buttercup at some point. Around May-June, Blossom started getting lethargic, not eating, just a lot of sleeping. My sister took her to the vet and the bloodwork showed that she had Felv+. (Feline Leukemia) Unfortunately, as soon as she brought the cat to the vet, the cat just lost strength. The Vet suggested Euthanasia because she was clearly suffering.
Eventually, she took Bubbles to the vet to make sure he was okay. Sure enough, he tested positive too. But he wasn't lethargic or starving himself. He was still quite a happy kitty. He would put his whole nose up your nostrils. Loudest purr ever. He wound up getting fleas. Had a terrible reaction to the flea medicine, ripped open a scab and basically got himself a nasty infection. He was put down last night. I'm sure him being positive didn't help either but.
I'm not here for sympathy, only to inform and share this story with someone who might be trying to adopt from a store. I don't think my sister has been in contact with PetSmart. And I'm sure they have an agreement somewhere in the adoption paperwork that covers their ass if something like this were to happen. I feel terrible for my nieces and sister. My sister doesn't want another cat yet. But she'll adopt from a shelter next time. Screw PetSmart.
