I think this is more of a letting-frustration-out kind of post. I just recently moved in to a house in a decent neighborhood, and saw my across the street neighbors had an adorable little brown puppy. She’s grown a bit since then, but almost daily she’d be outside walking in the neighborhood alone, while the owners were at school and work. Occasionally, one middle school age girl would come out and call for her a couple times, and myself and my neighbor have both brought her home from our yards or the street. This has always bothered me, as she’s small and doesn’t seem to understand cars. However, a few weeks ago I really started to get angry when on a 105+ degree day, she was left outside from 8-3 with no water and no food, and no way to get inside, and spent the day whining at their front door. I of course gave her water but I didn’t feel it was right to take her inside my house, having two cats and a dog myself. The only adult resident of the house is seemingly never home, and the kids don’t seem to care about her at all. I’ve been worried about her immensely since we moved in. The other day I heard one of the girls calling for her for longer than usual. Today my boyfriend told me he saw a post saying she was lost on our neighborhood website. I’m furious. The neglect, lack of supervision, and flippant attitude upon being delivered their puppy from someone else’s property - and now finally losing the poor sweet baby, who in this area may have been hit by a driver or killed by a predator. I was tempted to report them when they left her in the sweltering heat, and now I feel responsible for what may have happened to her. I didn’t want her to get put in the pound and possibly face euthanasia, and I don’t believe they would’ve gone to get her. I’m close to tears just thinking about it, she was really the sweetest friendliest little dog you could imagine. To add insult to injury, I saw them dancing around in the driveway yesterday while the life they took responsibility of is possibly gone forever. I really lose faith in situations like this. Why do people get animals just to mistreat and ignore them? All I can dream of is that a nice family found her and decided to give her a better life. I should’ve done more.
