I just adopted a 10 year old diluted calico from the animal shelter yesterday. There is an 11 year old tortie that currently lives with me (she is my mother’s cat). I’m trying to introduce the cats slowly, but my new cat meows incessantly if she is in my room, even if I am in the room with her. She stops meowing if I open the door and let her roam the rest of the house.
Additionally, I have kept my mother’s cat in her room whenever the new cat is roaming. I am just trying to get them used to each other’s scent before I introduce them. I’ve been told they should be separated for about a week, so this is a big issue. I don’t want my mom’s cat to have to stay locked up because the new cat won’t stay in the room without meowing and trying to open the door.
She even meows at night, resulting in difficulty sleeping for my fiancé and myself.
How can I get her to stop meowing when she’s in my room? Especially at night and because I want my mom’s cat to also be able to roam the rest of the house at times.
