Roommates 2 cats harassing my cat nonstop

Living temporarily at my friends big house until i transition into the military

My friend has 2 young female cats, both fixed and still with their claws. They are about 1 year and a half. My cat is male, fixed, still has claws about 9 years old. Friend does not let them outside, he is extremely afraid of any type of change and most likely has issues himself but shelters the cats indoors no matter how much they beg to get out. I am unable to pet his cats without them scratching, hissing and biting at me... they seem to be very poorly socialized cats. My cat is very quiet, sleeps all day and seems to be sort of winding down with age in his energy levels.

I have been here 4 months. For some reason 2 weeks ago his cats attitudes flipped like a lightswitch, from passive/neutral to aggressive/hostile towards my cat.

They do not share foot bowls, but ate near each other in separate bowls. They have separate litter boxes and my cat sleeps on my bed in my room, away from them. I have no idea what caused this sudden change in hostility. They will chase my cat around nonstop (both of them), and corner him in the basement swatting at him/hissing and attacking him. This morning i woke up at 6:30 to my cat peeing and pooping all over the blankets ontop of me in my bed because my friends two cats were right outside my door refusing to let him leave (I had heard them fighting earlier in the night i believe)

I told my friend already his cats need to be distracted, to go outside, to be played with, ANYTHING to distract them and get their animal nature out - he is incredibly lazy and the smallest inconvenience will send him into an anxious regression. My idea of getting a leash on those rods we can drive into the ground so his cats can "safely" go in the backyard was met with "i doubt that will work".

I understand you cant help me with an apathetic human being, but maybe somebody has advice on how to keep my cat from being attacked and harassed nonstop.

No idea what i should do.
