I'm sure many of you have seen a recent video on r/awww of a cockatoo playfully chasing a cat's tail. It's very cute. I guess.
The comments section is primarily people saying the cockatoo would win in that fight. People point out, rightfully so, that cockatoos are large and aggressive birds at times. Their bites are extremely painful (I would know), and when they puff up on the attack, it is downright scary.
Cats dont care. Cats may back off for a second if a cockatoo puffs up. They dont care if they get bit, they're only going to fight back harder. I probably came across as an asshole for posting this picture, of a cat who is carrying a cockatoo in its mouth, in the comments. But I dont care, rip reddit karma.
Yes, a cockatoo could hurt a cat. It could break its skin, break its bones with a good enough bite. And then the cat will scratch, grab, pull in, and attack. Congrats, your cat is injured and your bird is dead. On the good chance you manage to pry your bird out of your cats mouth, even with antibiotics secondary infection will probably set in and cause your cockatoo to suffer.
I get it, a large bird playfully playing with a calm predator is cute. It makes you go aww. But that sub needs a reality check.
