One of my cats keeps jumping past my bedroom door and getting into the living room/rest of the house. This wouldn't be a problem, except she does it at night when I'm getting ready to go bed or in the morning when I'm trying to leave for work, so I can't wait for her to explore to her heart's content. Usually she does it when I'm bringing them their wet food, she doesn't really try to jump past me at other times.
She acts really weird when she gets past me. She just runs around and refuses to let me even get close to her. She runs off when she sees me. She won't come to me. I've never yelled at her or punished her or done anything to her when she jumps past me like this other than pick her up and take her back downstairs. Usually I just set her food down and wait for her to come start eating and pick her up then. And then she gets her food downstairs in my room.
Tonight she didn't even want the food. I had to wait until she went in one of the bedrooms and she finally let me pick her up. She was purring when I finally got hold of her. I'm not sure if this is a coincidence, but the bedroom she chose (out of the four open rooms) is the one I kept her and her brother in during the day when they first came home, so she may see it as familiar.
To me, the way she explores when she jumps past me is different than her usual exploring. Usually she is slow and I guess methodical. But in the living room, she runs kinda hunkered down and seems like she is looking for places to hide (the living room dosen't have many). And with not wanting me near her, she just seems stressed. When she got to the bedroom, she immediately went under one of the beds. She is totally fine now though.
Does it seem like she could be getting stressed out by being in the living room? If she is stressed, why does she keep trying to do it? What can I do about this?
