Hello! I'm 15 years old and I've been taking in rescue animals for a while now! However I've never had much experience with birds I've always taken in cats, rodents, and reptiles. So this is my first bird that I'm taking care of completely on my own! She was recently owned by one of my step-sisters distant family members and is quite old, I don't know quite how old but my sister (who is in her 20s) met the bird when she was a kid. The birds name is Charlie and sadly she has been taken out of her cage or socialized with for at least a year :( So she is a bit aggressive, shes fine with me being around her cage but wont let me go near her with my hands or body. I've only had her for half a day now and I understand it'll take much longer than that to tame her but advice is still appreciated! The advice on the internet is mainly targeted towards baby cockatiels or ones that have had no past human handling. I've been given some things she used to like to do such as climbing outside of and ontop of her cage. So I've opened her cage after about and hour after I got home with her and left it open while I occasionally talked to her saying phrases I know she's heard in the past such as "pretty girl Charlie" and "smart girl Charlie" and "night night Charlie" whenever I put her to bed. Whenever her cage was open she did venture outside, not far and not for long periods of time" but she seemed very happy whenever she realized her cage was open! If anyonr as any advice that could further help me I'd be very greatful!! Have a wonderful day!
