Am I a bad owner?

I have an elderly cat, and about 5 months ago, she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. She been on meds since, and she seems to be doing well, although about a week after she went on the meds, she started scratching badly above he eyes, and neck, producing sores, also, she had a lot of discharge corming from her eyes. I really think it was a reaction from the meds, but my vet doesn't think so. Well, they gave her a shot of steroids, and I applied some ointment for 7 days, and it cleared up. Well, I notice I see her scratching a few times s day above her eyes, and under her neck. No balf spot under her neck, but she does have thinning spots above her eyes, and between her ears. Well, the ver said that's normal, but when I was at the vets, I noticed a scab above whr eye. The vet said since it was scabbed over, its obviously healing, and not bothering her. We still dont know what the cause of her scratching is. I do see her scratching in those spots a couple times a day. I dont interact with her much because she prefers to stay downstairs, and sleep, so I dont her to see how much she scratches. I suppose if she were really uncomfortable, then she wouldnt be able to sleep as soundly as she does? I would try to get to the bottom of why she scratches, but I'm not sure it bothers her enough, and she just hates the car ride to the vets, and I dont want to keep stressing her out, as shes 25 years old, and has already been stressed enough lately shes been an outdoor cat all her life, and now shes licked inside all the time. Also I have to shove her pills down her throat twice a day, and she ends up grawling, and scratching me.
