Roommate's Cat is Dying

I know this isn't the happiest topic but I have a question, but first some background.

My roommate has a 16/m Maine Coon black cat. He is one of the sweetest cats I know and recently he has been secluding himself off, not eating, drinking, etc. unless we force him to. My roommate was FINALLY able to get him into the vet only to find out his kidneys are failing/have failed. She has owned this beautiful man for 15 years, ever since she was in 1st grade.

Currently he is home having opted to take him home to pass (for now, if he worsens pain wise we'll go to the vet). She hasn't left his side, which is hard because he's laying on our closet in the corner. She's only left to eat and to use the bathroom. His condition is taking a toll on the household, myself included. I have cried for at least an hour over him because he is SUCH a good cat.

In order to help my friend with the grieving process, I was wondering what your ideas are to help memorialize him. My other roommate and our friend group have already discussed doing something for her a month or so after his passing but we need more ideas as to what.

If you have any suggestions please let me know. We are looking for cheaper options since we are all poor college kids.

Thanks!
