Shih Tzu won’t stand or walk

Stow, Ohio here. Our rescue Shih-tzu (we have had him for 2+ years now) Oliver (not sure of age, maybe ~7) for the last two days doesn’t want to stand up or walk, go outside, etc. He is 17-18lbs. He keeps licking his back left paw. When he tries to walk, his back appears arched. This began this past Wednesday night. On Wed evening, he ate and did #2. On Thursday, he wouldn’t get out of bed. Took him to vet and they expelled his anal glands and sent him home. He came home, seemed OK, ate and #2, went to bed. Friday morning, again wouldn’t get out of bed or go outside. At noon Friday, took him to vet again, where in their lobby he was unwilling to stand or walk. Dropped him off. They observed him, said he was walking for them, said his range of motion in legs is good, lymph nodes do not seem worrisome, and he even ate for them and did #1 & #2. They thought maybe he tweaked his back. Sent us home with Carpovet 25mg (1.5 tablets once daily). Gave it to him yesterday afternoon and he ate and did not #2 yesterday night. This morning, Saturday, again would not get up. I gave him another Carpovet dose at 7a, and still he will not stand, walk, eat, or go outside. Since Thursday, even if we try to pick him up, he growls and tries to bite. I am just not sure about the back diagnosis. Am I being too worried here?

Edit: Oliver has lived with us for 2+ years now and is typically active and loves walks.
