[Help] My dog still isn't housebroken

INFO: he's an 8 month purebred dalmatian. he's completely healthy, sees a vet nurse regularly. He just isn't grasping the concept of house-training. I let him out the crate for cuddles and training often but I restrict his 'freetime' as he would pee and poop on the bed, on the floor etc. Under advice of others I tried to restrict his time outside the crate to avoid the accidents but he keeps going to the bathroom in his crate.

When he barks I take him outside to pee/poo and often he does go but other times he gets distracted or just doesn't need to go. His latest accident he had just eaten his breakfast in the crate and just peed straight after and then went for a poop. I'm just kinda at a loss what to do next as it's just not getting any better...

TDLR: puppy is going to the bathroom in his crate.
