Fixed kitten diarrhoea with a wet food diet

Hi all,

Just thought I'd post this anecdote in case someone else was having this problem.

I got a kitten (now 8 months old) a couple of months ago. I noticed that from the beginning, his stool seemed really soft (and after stressful interactions with my other cat, it was sometimes liquidy).

I took him to the vet, who just told me to keep on the dry kitten food diet I was feeding him, and to not give him any raw meat/wet food. Her reasoning was that dry food is easier to digest because of the carbs, and that his diarrheoa was probably from the stress of the move/bad interactions with my other cat (I'm doing a very very slow introduction process with them, but he got out of his safe room a few times at the beginning). She also got me to give him a de-worming tablet, just in case.

I did this for another month with no improvement (despite only one more bad interaction with the resident cat), before deciding that it was quite likely the carbs in the dry food that were irritating him. So I recently switched to low-carb, wet kitten food, and it's completely fixed up the problem (such a relief!)

I'll probably switch to a home-made raw diet once he's fully grown, as the premium food I'm giving him at the moment is very expensive. But it's worth it for his comfort/health and much easier litter cleaning for me! I just wish I'd tried it sooner.
