Hi everyone, I am fostering kittens right now and I have the opportunity to adopt one. I would like so advice about a concern I have and would appreciate some guidance.
I have two kittens right now, a boy and a girl. They are about 5.5-6 weeks old so they still have a few weeks before they are ready for their forever homes.
My boy is vocal, and purrs as soon as you pick him up. He will always tries to crawl in my lap and is very playful. Sometimes he doesn’t always sit still and is very wiggly. He easily cries whenever he doesn’t like something. Lol.
My girl is quiet. Hardly ever meows. And when I pick her up, she either doesn’t purr, or it’s so quiet you barelyyyyy can hear it. Shes the runt of the litter. She’s more reserved about playing and coming up to me. She prefers to hide/hangout under our couch chair and sometimes dash out to play, whereas her brother is out and about and wants to explore everythinggg. She has never come up to me on her own, but if I pick her up, she kinda just flops in my arms. (Like chilling out but not purring). The only times I hear her purr are when she’s sleepy, or when I put her and her brother on this extremely fuzzy blanket I have on my bed. She’s very cute she makes biscuits. She’s very playful, she will run around the living room doing this little hoppy run before going under the couch.
I play with them constantly. Lots and lots of cuddles, and talking to them, and engaging with them. Since I’m on unemployment due to the lockdown, I have devoted my time to being a full time kitty mom.
My friend submitted an application to adopt the boy- and when I first got them, the girl was my favorite and I wanted to adopt her because her colorings looked exactly like my childhood cat, Cyan. But now I’m not so sure. It almost seems like she’s not interested in people. Is that something that will change? What about after her brother is adopted?
Am I over thinking this? Is there a way to encourage her to be more people friendly besides what I’m doing? I’ve always had extremely friendly and affectionate cats so this is rather new for me. Maybe just give her more time to open up to me?
