Please help.. My parent is trying to get rid of childhood cat

TLDR; parent wants to get rid of my childhood cat who I love very much due to bathroom issues and I don't know what to do

Urgent input is welcomed. I am a college student who is at home due to COVID-19. My childhood cat (~8 years old) is having issues where she poops outside of her litter box. We have taken her to two different vet clinics, done X-Rays and all sorts of tests and never got any diagnosis. We have changed food, tried probiotics and supplements, changed litter and boxes, etc. As you can tell this has been an ongoing situation.

Well today she had another accident on the carpet and my parent has had it. I've been told to find a shelter or new place for her or she will be euthanized. I'm emotionally devastated and don't know what to do. I've had my cat since she was a kitten and she's grown up with me and I love her so much. I'd rather give her up than have her euthanized, and I know that the local humane society is a good place because I've worked and volunteered there in the past. But it's just so emotionally devastating... And I feel so ashamed to be in the place of the surrenderer having to give up my pet after having worked on the other side of things.

I love my cat and I love all other pets. I'm actually a pre-vet student who is working toward applying to vet school. And I just find it so embarrassing and humiliating that in this situation I am so powerless as to what happens with our cat. I've tried to stay patient and rational, but tensions are already high and I really don't think I can diffuse this situation any longer.

I have my own apartment on campus, but they don't allow pets and my roommate's allergic anyway. At the moment I've put our cat in the bathroom with water and her litter box, but I don't know how much time I have until I have to give her up... It could literally be any moment and I'm scared. Any advice is welcome idk if anyone else has ever been in a similar situation.
