Hi, I adopted a cat a few months ago. We don't know her exact age, but we are guessing she is a little less than a year old. She was a foster fail. They said she was a stray, but she seems very domesticated as she is ridiculously clingy (she sits on the tub while I shower). She loves me and bonded with me right away so I had to adopt her. We also have a dog in the household, but they are kept separate. Her and the dog don't really get along, but they aren't always in conflict, just kind of avoid each other. I brought home a foster kitten today that will likely be around for a week or so. The foster I would guess is about 5 weeks old or so. The foster is set up in my bathroom with a bed, litter box, food, and water. My cat will not even go in the hallway by the bathroom. If I come back into the room and smell of the kitten is on me my usually loving cat will hiss and bite at me (she doesn't bite hard, just a little bit of a nip). Now I know this seems like a temporary problem, but I'm moving into a place in August when college starts back up with a girl who has two cats herself. I want find ways for my cat to adapt to having another cat around and not be stressed out. I've used calming spray and sprayed all around the room, I've given her treats with the foster's smell on them, I pet her and reassure when the foster is around. But she won't stop with the hissing and growling when she sees the cat. Luckily, she hasn't attacked the cat, she just runs away and gets very upset with me. I know it has only been a day, but this seems like a terrible situation. Any advice would be great! I don't just want to let them hash it out since the foster is so small.
