An Australian Shepherd and two cats who do NOT like to be herded

So...I have a 2 year old Aussie who of course has very strong herding instincts. My boyfriend actually got her and already had a 3 year old cat. He did not grow up with dogs and was not aware of these instincts. She has definitely reeled back on herding the 3 year old cat. We've been able to achieve this by making sure she exercises often (mostly going on runs) and got her a puzzle treat ball to keep her occupied. These have worked WONDERFULLY....until we brought home an 8 week old kitten. We got her because our dog constantly wants to play. We did not want another dog due to so much of our time and energy going to our Aussie. So we decided on a kitten that would have the opportunity to grow up with our dog. She is extremely playful and we both believe that over time, she will want to play with our dog.

But as of now, our dog is constantly herding the kitten and has no interest in her puzzle ball and will go seek her out after exercise. The kitten does not like it, which I was expecting considering she's never been around a big dog before. Nothing seems to be helping. Anyone have any advice on this? Anything that would help our dog? Will this go away as the kitten grows older? Thanks!
