I adopted a cat a few months ago, just under a year old at the time. I live alone, but occasionally will have family over. So far, he has met my father, my sister, my mother, my cousin, my stepmother, my stepsisters, and my brother. He has never shown any signs of aggression towards anyone, including me. He does pounce sometimes, but this is all playful. However, the last time I had my brother over he attacked his legs twice. I attributed this to the fact that he used the vacuum, after which my cat is always skiddish, and has a more heavy-footed gate than myself which seems to make the cat uncomfortable. He pounced, hissed (which is unusual), and ran off. This happened twice that day.
Today, he not pounce, hiss, or scratch. He just bit. He jumped up to where my brother was sitting, received some pets (as he had from myself, my brother, and my cousin all night), then just hauled out and bit. The aggression seems exclusive to my brother, as my cousin has stayed with me a number of times and never had any aggressive behavior thrown his way. I'm highly concerned. I had my brother feed him some of his favorite food, after which he seemed content with his presence, but nonetheless he acted aggressively some time later. I need to get to the root of this aggression, because I can't have my cat attacking my brother all the time. He is, in general, a very sweet cat, usually nervous around new people until he does sniffs and receives pets, but my brother has met him a number of times at this point and he continues to show aggressive behavior. My brother is very much a pet person, and has had no issues with cats in the past (including with aggressive cats). He even volunteered for a period of time at a no-kill shelter, working exclusively with cats. I know it has something to do with my cat, and I need to get to the bottom of it.
Any insight or tips would be helpful.
