Cat started peeing pretty much everything but in the litter box

Hi! I have a 6 months old male cat. When he was younger he used to pee in my bed (more specifically on every quilt) and in some places around my apartment, usually close to the litter boxes. I bought two bigger litter boxes and places them in separate rooms in discrete places and used a spray that smelled like citrus in the spots where he used to pee and the problem was fixed for a few months.

At one point I slowly changed his litter with pellets which he ended up using for a few months. Then, one day when I was cleaning his litter box, he just went and peed on the carpet in my bedroom. Two days ago he peed on the carpet in the living room and the carpet in the kitchen. Yesterday he peed on another carpet in the living room and on the floor and today he peed again on another carpet. All of these are places where he never peed before.

He still uses the litter like once or twice per day for peeing and to poop.

He is not fixed, but he is scheduled for getting fixed in about a week. I didnt take him to a vet since he did not present any symptoms of any kind of urinal problem. He doesn't drink too much water, he eats just as much as normal, he doesn't seem to be in pain. He meows pretty loud sometimes but if I start playing with him he stops and starts playing.

I don't know what to do anymore, now he literally pees every day in a new spot. I don't want to give him away because me and my family became really attached to him and he really shows us everyday that he loves us (excepting the moments when he pees outside the litter box)

If you have any advice please let me know. Also if you know any kind of disease that makes the cat pee outside the litter box in peeing position then please don't spare the details
