We adopted an 8 year old cat a couple months ago and my husband and I noticed fleas on him yesterday. Followed by the discovery of worms in his poop not long after. We just bought a house last year and have never dealt with fleas on our own, and I’m kind of freaking out.
We gave him a bath last night immediately and put him in his own area. I vacuumed all our carpeted rooms (only 2), and washed all of our blankets and sheets. I found a couple dead ones in a spot he was laying, but other than that I can’t tell where else they are.
We plan on combing him when we get home from work and then spraying/shampooing our carpets/furniture
Where should we go from here today? Is there anything OTC for treatment that I can give him immediately for the fleas and worms? Which should I take care of first? Is this something that can be taken care of at home, or because he already has worms should he be seen by a vet? Luckily he is not acting sick or different, just annoyed now that he had a bath.
We’re in the middle of demolishing our bedroom for a remodel and a few other things and so stress levels are a bit higher than usual, and our house is a cluttery mess right now and dealing with a flea problem seems super overwhelming for me right now. I go back and forth from reading that fleas are common and relatively treatable, to OMG we need to bug bomb the whole house and we’re going to be screwed for months to come. I really need some advice π
