Hey everyone, so I’ve been thinking about fostering. I just graduated from college and moved to a new city with my 1 year old cat. I saw a post about shelters in the area needing more foster homes and I was immediately interested. I love animals and I know that my cat wants another friend (he grew up with my roommates cat and I can tell he misses her).
With that being said, what are the realistic pro’s and con’s of fostering a cat? The main thing I’m worried about is the emotional toll, as I have an anxiety disorder that tends to get worse when I believe my current cat may be upset/distressed. So I am not sure that I would be able to handle the extreme medical cases of some fosters and the goodbye process at the end of the foster. But I do really want to help my local shelters and I love taking care of pets. Plus, my cat does really well with other cats so I think he would enjoy the foster. And my current telework situation seems like the optimal time to help out a shelter, since I’m at home so much now.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
