How can I keep my kittens off my coffee table?

My two kittens are fascinated by the coffee table and ever since they have grown large enough to be able to get on it unassisted they keep jumping onto it. However there are things on the coffee table i don’t want them getting into (sometimes i or my girlfriend leave a glass out by mistake, there are books on it and both cats LOVE eating paper, etc). We have tried the usual methods of tin foil and sticky tape, since it’s obvious spraying them isn’t working. And they have loads of other things to climb on — they have a 5 ft tall cat tower, the entirety of the couch, multiple boxes and other things of that nature. So this isnt that theyre bored or something it’s literally that they just Want To See how the books on the coffee table taste. I firmly believe there should be limits in how you adjust your life when you have pets and for me locking all my books away so my cats can’t eat them is definitely a line I think would be ridiculous to cross. They’re not allowed in the kitchen, nor do I plan on letting them because I use a lot of onion when I cook, so counters there aren’t an issue. But they are OBSESSED with the coffee table. Is there a way to use positive reinforcement training to fix this? I never did that with my pets growing up, we usually just shooed the cat off the counter or whatever if they got up there.
