I’m not going to go into a ton of detail about the situation, so to make a long story short - Me and my husband have a roommate, we let her get a kitten (we already had an adult cat) under the condition that she got all of her shots and got her spayed ASAP. She didn’t. She took about a year to get her spayed until finally I just took the cat and got her fully taken care of. By that point the cat had developed some unsavory behaviors, one of which being peeing in piles of laundry or blankets, because of this she is never allowed in our bedroom while the other cat in the house sleeps with us every night and is allowed in whenever she pleases. My roommate is now moving out and is trying to re-home her cat.. I want to know if there’s any way to eliminate this behavior in the cat because while this is an issue I can’t justify keeping her for multiple reasons - 1: I’m having a baby soon and can’t have her peeing in the nursery/ baby’s laundry. 2: Since my roommate is almost never here she’s super lonely at night, I don’t want to have to keep her shut off from us and alone if we were to keep her, it’s heartbreaking. 3: It’s not very realistic to have her shut out of ALL of the bedrooms in the house and only be allowed in the laundry room (with the litter box) and the living room/ kitchen.
TLDR; My roommate is getting rid of her cat because she’s leaving/is never home. I want to be able to keep the cat but can’t justify it because of the peeing for multiple reasons. Is there any way to fix this behavior.?
