I’m literally about to lose my freaking mind with this cat. I love him to pieces, but every morning around 4am, he recently started banging on my door and meowing loudly to get out. Firstly, the cats are not allowed of my room unsupervised because we are moving, and my parents don’t want them to mess up the rooms they’ve painted/the floors they’ve done, or get fur everywhere after we just cleaned, which is 100% understandable. They go out during the day no problem, they just sleep in my room. He has food, toys, water, everything, and if he lays in front of me for head scritches I’ll give them to him.
When I get up, I always open the windows because they always like to sit and look outside. That would always calm him down 100%, but recently it stopped working.
I tried closing the door so he can’t bang on the baby gate, but he’d just slam on the door. I’d admittedly get angry and throw slippers or pillows at him but he’d just go back after a few minutes.
My parents already want to get rid of him for making so much noise at night and honestly, I don’t blame them. I love my dear kitty but as a sufferer if insomnia, sleep is the one thing you can’t mess with me on.
I’m not sure if the vacuum method would work if the cat is inside the room with me, but I’m still going to try it regardless because I’m annoyed now. I even thought at one point of rearranging my schedule so that I wake at 5am and just chill with them and let them out, but I didn’t want to have to lose on sleep because of him. His sister does just fine with the open window and a cat tree, he’s just spoiled and he knows he’ll get what he wants eventually from one of us. I’m trying to stop this behavior earlier better than never, so any advice would help.
