What kind of pet would be ok on its own for 2 weeks?

Hello,

I'm looking to get a kid friendly pet but we leave our house for 2 weeks twice a year and we can't have someone pet sitting at our house (too remote). Boarding is so expensive here that we'd rather not have a pet if that was the only option.

I looked into reptiles because some of them require less frequent eating but haven't found any that would meet the criteria yet. We live in Ohio and have a house with a decent sized yard so maybe an outdoor turtle would be an option?

I'm open to more exotic ideas as I love nature and would like to share that with my kids.
