Breed: sheltie mix k9 Weight: 20 lbs Spayed Female Age: 8 years Feeds are am and pm Location: Southern CA
Last week I had to put down my 15 year old dog. In the last few weeks of her life we were mixing “fresh pet” with her dry kibble to get her to eat it.
During this time, my 8 year old sheltie mix became disinterested in the dry kibble. I attempted to just leave it in a bowl for her to eat when she is hungry, but it didn’t work. Instead she would vomit bile from not eating.
I would mix the fresh pet with the kibble, and she would literally spit out the dry food on the floor as she was eating the desired food.
Now that the senior dog is gone, my other dog is disinterested in the her food. I tried switching brands of kibble, and even resorted to a refrigerated food called “Just food for dogs.” (Everything I have purchased has chicken as the main source of protein, as I don’t want to upset her stomach with a bunch of new proteins.) In the past few days she has gone from wolfing down this new food mix, to not wanting it at all. To my knowledge, her last BM was on Monday and was unremarkable.
Yesterday she vomited twice at different times of the day. Both times it was undigested food from her am feed.
Today she’s been fine- no coughing/sneezing/vomiting/diarrhea. She has had normal energy levels, etc.
This morning she eventually ate her food, but was not interested in eating her food tonight.
So I am at a loss. I don’t know if this is a veterinary issue, and I should consult my vet, or a behavioral issue. Please help!
