Advice needed furniture protection from pets

I am not sure where to post this. I'm hoping pets accepts this and some other Reddit pet owners have experience here and can help me out. Thanks in advance

We've gone over a year without a couch in our living room. Pets ruined two in a row and we decided to go with chairs only (we have a couple of nice antique chairs and comfy fold-outs when there is more than two people gathering).

The entire family is really missing having a couch - the kids miss movie nights, my wife and I miss cuddling for an in-home movie/date night.

I pulled the trigger and bought a cheap ($700), decently reviewed, sectional with two L shapes (not sure what the extended leg rest thing is called).

I want to protect it against any other pet messes. So I am buying two of these covers if both are on at the same time, it should offer enough protection.

I want to protect it further by putting a plastic layer underneath the two covers. Can someone please help me determine what type of plastic covering would be best here? Thanks!
