I have never used reddit before so I apologize if this is the wrong place to be asking. I just want to know if anyone has a similar experience or some insight. Also am on mobile so sorry if that impacts spelling/format.
So, I have a dog; around 6 years old and female. She's a corgi but mixed with other breeds.
We got her from a foster owner who said she used to belong to a homeless man, and the only issues she's had previously are aggression to other dogs, but it's controllable. Within the past year entirely I've had some family issues with an emotionally abusive parent. My parents seperated and my dad became very erratic and would show up at my house randomly, (he had a key) coming in and yelling and threating my sibling and mom. It would result in a lot of yelling between us and he has destroyed items in the house during his episodes (kicking a door in) and attempting to assault my sibling.
my dog has been present for all of this and I would understandably think she's shaken up. My dad was arrested so he hasn't been around, but that's only been for about a month or two now. in the past month, my dog has been very clingy (crawling into our beds even though she's never been allowed to), barely eating her food, fairly low energy, and trembling. She gets very aggressive when anyone knocks or walks by the house now, too. Also, everyone in my house works now so we can afford to live, so we're always away and things are pretty stressful.
I just wonder if my dog could have PTSD? I'm worried because she doesn't eat her food much anymore and is really clingy and nervous. Should I take her to the vet for it, or just spend more time with her? does anyone have a similar experience?
TL;DR: my dog is showing signs of depression/odd behavior after a year of stress and verbally abusive patterns in my house. could she be suffering from PTSD?
