So, I have been looking for a way to get my dog from Belize to the USA. New CDC regulations make it so that after the 14th they have to fly into LAX, JFK, or ATL ONLY (No ground transport across the border is allowed) and have to have a CDC import permit. I have not found a single flight from Belize or Mexico that will take my dog because of Covid limiting Cargo and pet transport.
The CDC is currently also allowing MIAMI as a port of entry but this changes on the 14th of October and they have not gotten back to me with approval for my permit and I am starting to think that they will not until after this deadline.
This is all because the CDC is trying to prevent dogs with rabies from getting into the country. My dog is born in America, vaccinated in America, and has only been with me in Belize for the last 11 months. HE DOES NOT HAVE RABIES. He doesn't even interact with other dogs or wildlife.
I have checked Alaska, Delta, United, WestJet, JetBlue, Air Canada, etc. with no luck.
The reason we are relocating back to the US is that we were doing remote work the last year and my partner just got a job offer back home and if we can't get back to the US with our dog it could cost her a really good job opportunity.
Does anyone know what humane societies are doing to get dogs from Mexico/Central America to the US or Canada?
Any help/insight that would help us with our dilemma would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
