How do I get my cat to sleep through the night

Hi guys,

My boyfriend and I adopted a one year old tabby, she's cute and loves being close to us. We adopted her about 3 weeks ago and she always wakes up in the middle of the night. It's gotten bad for us bc we don't always sleep the entire night. She will scratch our door throughout the night, but if we let her in she'll run around and climb on everything which will keep us up. My boyfriend and I work from home but try to keep her active during the day with a toy or laser pointer and an hour before bed we play with her even longer hoping to wear her out but she still wakes up. Can anyone suggest any ideas? Thank you
