I don't want to declaw my cat, but...

My cat is being very difficult lately—she scratches the carpet and now she's started scratching the wall. This is a major problem because my fiance and I are renting a duplex, so I don't want to deal with an upset landlord.

I don't know if breed has to do with anything, but she's a 10 year old calico. She has an automatic feeder, nothing else related to her is, though. I refill her water daily and clean her litter box every couple days. She has a little cat condo in the living room next to her food and water, and a curvy scratching board—with carpet!—in the bedroom. We do not own any other pets, she is the only one in this household. We moved here over 6 months ago, so she should be well adjusted by now.

I hate to admit it, but she even scratched the carpet whenever I still lived with my parents. She even chewed up some of the smaller electrical cords I had at the time. I didn't know what to do about that then besides give her attention, and it seemed to work okay.

Now I'm a full time student and working 4 days a week on top of that, so I don't have much time to spend with my cat. I'm thinking that this may be the origin of the problem. So, I bought her some little mouse toys with catnip in them, but I haven't seen any of them for a month. She doesn't like to play with feathers or lasers. I don't know what other toys she would like. If anyone has any suggestions, that'd be great.

Recently, she started clawing the carpet again and is gradually pulling it up and making ripples. In response, I got her those plastic claw caps with nail glue and put them on her. She's chewed all but two of them off, but probably because the nails are also growing underneath. At any time between 2am and 4am, she will jump onto the bed and walk across the pillows and our faces while we are sleeping.

This morning, she started clawing at the walls. My fiance is furious and wants her to get declawed.

I want to put the claw caps on her again and explore my options. Maybe if I put the caps on and change her habits go sleeping at night by playing with her before we go to bed, as well as getting her more scratching boards, toys, and like a eight foot cat tree she'll be satisfied? I really don't know at this point.
